Spotlight Athlete

Congrats Pat on being our next Athlete in the Spotlight

When did you start doing CrossFit?

started doing CrossFit at Baydog in February 2015.

What is your favorite WOD/Type of WOD?

I prefer WODs that mostly consist of body weight exercises and, as odd as it may sound, thrusters.

What is your least favorite WOD/Type of WOD?

I’m not a big fan of snatches or squat snatches…they kill my shoulders.

Tell us a little bit about yourself/yourselves (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.)

I’ve been married for the past 26 years and have two sons, Pasquale and Dominic.  I played sports most of my life, mainly baseball and soccer, and continued to play soccer until 2003.  I retired from the Army in 2004, and I like to spend my free time with my family and traveling.

What type of exercise or activities (if any) were you doing before CrossFit?

I’ve always been active.  After I retired from the Army I wanted to remain active, so I continued to go to the gym and do the same conventional workouts as everybody else.  About seven years ago I converted my garage into a gym so I could do my own “different” workouts.  I kept getting bored of the same routines and was tired of injuring myself, and then I discovered CrossFit and haven’t looked back.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit?

I wanted to try something different that would keep my interest and add variety into my workouts.

Have you achieved any of those goals?

Has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym (Community, Friends, etc)?

I used to dread running, but since I’ve been doing CrossFit I look forward to some of the WODs that have running in them.  I have a great amount of respect for the coaches at Baydog, because they know you as a person, not just a nameless face who walks into the gym.  I also have a great amount of respect for the other athletes.  We’re all doing the same workout, experiencing the same pain, and encouraging and cheering each other on at the same time.

Something you might not know about me/us is…someday I would like to do a WOD Machu Picchu trip with Boxpeditions.
