John ReedJOHN REED – CO-OWNER/HEAD COACH

When John began “CrossFit”ing in the spring of 2007, he was 218lbs. at 5’8” and was diagnostically obese. John tried the typical fitness routines and standard healthy American diet with mediocre results. He found it difficult to balance work, family, and high volume low intensity workout programs. A student of his showed him the CrossFit website and John was hooked. He has been an athlete all his life and CrossFit provided him with the intense and fun training John had been missing. Through CrossFit, John has lost and kept off thirty five pounds energizing all aspects of his life. He now has three children and finds it easy to balance family, with work, and working out now that John uses CrossFit training protocols. He has completed some of his best seasons as a lacrosse goalie and has finished consistently in or near the top 10% of his age group and overall race field in triathlons. CrossFit has allowed John to improve on his overall wellnes and he would like to help others do the same.

Justin JonesJUSTIN JONES CO-OWNER/COACH

Justin is enthusiastic about fitness and how it can positively change a person, as it has been an important part of his life. His pursuit to be (and just as important, maintain) physically fit started at a young age but was more apparent when he enlisted in the United States Army while balancing a full-time college curriculum and playing Varsity Men’s Lacrosse. Since that time, Justin continues to maintain his own fitness and health regimen, as he is still active on a Post Collegiate Lacrosse Team and is also a Command Fitness Instructor in the Navy Reserves. The adaptability of workouts is what sold Justin on CrossFit and he is looking forward to sharing the versatility of these workouts with all the Baydog CrossFit members in order for them to meet whatever sport/fitness goals they may have in mind.

Pat DodsonPATRICK DODSON – CO-OWNER/COACH

Patrick has been an athlete since the day he could walk and spent many years (age 19-23) as a professional Golf Instructor before entering Corporate America. He has always attempted to stay active with goals such as Marathons and Triathlons, but with 4 children and a business career, time has become a slipping commodity. Long hours of training for marathons or triathlons were taxing other areas of his life and he did not seem to be in better shape after all the intense training. Finding CrossFit 3 years ago was a perfect fit for him. CrossFit has allowed time management and intense training all in one. Patrick wishes he had started it as a kid. Patrick would like to help spread the good news that there is a better way to be an athlete without sacrificing your work-life balance.

BRIAN GRIZZLEBRIAN GRIZZLE – COACH

Brian started CrossFitting in October 2007 and his second Workout was “FRAN” (Interested in knowing what the above mentioned workout consists of? Come on in to Baydog!). It took him a pretty lengthy time to complete this workout, considering his background in a wide variety of sports. Even with an undesirable finish time, he was instantly addicted and became passionate about the high intensity, functional movements that is the staple of CrossFit. He is dedicated to his craft and making a difference matters to him. “There is no greater inspiration to me than when someone moves weight they never thought possible or climbs a rope for the first time!”

ERIN MADDEN – COACH

Erin began getting involved in athletics at a very early age. She grew up an athlete participating in lacrosse, field hockey and swimming. After high school she played Division 1 field hockey in college. Post college she became a physical education teacher in Anne Arundel County and fell into a comfortable routine of long distance running and spin class. Weightlifting was never an option, as she insisted it “wasn’t for her” and that “she didn’t want to get bulky”. She completely changed her mind once a friend dragged her to Baydog for a class. Four years later Erin holds numerous certifications and has fallen in love with weightlifting. She loves introducing new people to the world of weightlifting and CrossFit and seeing the fire ignited in them as well.

Tim WilliamsTIM WILLIAMS – COACH

As a kid, Tim played a lot of different sports, but over the past decade he focused on running and triathlons. However, after a few years of this, Tim found he hated the monotony of running and was getting bored of triathlons.

In 2009 a friend cornered Tim at a dinner party and would not stop talking about something he was SURE Tim would love called “CrossFit”.  Intrigued, Tim looked into it, but found the nearest facility was 45 minutes away from his house and the home gym videos he watched scared him–he had never done Olympic lifting and he was sure he’d bust his head open without a coach.

So, Tim stuck with the marathons and triathlons.

In the fall of 2011, a box opened up nearby and Tim signed up.  After the first workout, Tim thought he was going to die, but he loved the intensity! Over the next year, performing CrossFit and adhering to a diet, he lost 20 lbs. and gained muscle mass.  More importantly, Tim made some wonderful new friends and felt much better about himself.

Since that time, Tim received his Level 1 Certification so that he could coach. He is passionate about helping people change their lives for the better through the fitness and the comradery that CrossFit offers.
